Rain?

Post Rain?
Ok, I have a couple of questions????? We are talking about doing Field trips in the rain. What is the best way to keep my camera dry? Do I need to worry about keeping the lens dry? I know that I really don't want raindrops on my glass, but how do I keep the rain off?
Then my other question is, With it being cold outside how do I keep my camera and lens from fogging up? this is very frustrating?

A few ideas:

Wear an oversize jacket so that you can keep the camera under the jacket and only bring it out to grab a quick image.

Carry a towel and an umbrella.

Wait until it stops raining. This helps some. But there will still be rain dripping off of shrubs and trees.

The lens shouldn't fog up while outside. That really only happens when you take a cold camera inside.

I've found that those plastic bowl covers that look like shower caps are great for keeping the lens dry. AND they work great at the coast where you get that miserable spray of salt water mist. IF you can't find the bowl covers, get a shower cap.

I have used a plastic bag with only the lense exposed. It keeps the camera dry, but you have to watch for drops getting on the lense.

Emory and I met Kurt Rogers, today at the Pro Photo Supply, in Portland. Kurt is former photographer for the San Fransisco Chronicle and is on the board of a camera bag company called Think Tank Photo (www.thinktankphoto.com).

Think Tank Photo has a line of rain gear called "Hydrophobia". Below is a link to their product.

I just picked up an Op/Tech Rainsleeve at focalpoint in Dallas. focalpoint has two versions one for a flash and one without. They cost $15 for a pair of Rainsleeve covers to protect your camera in the rain.

These are also available on e-bay as well.

Emory wanted one too so we split the cost making it just $7.50 each.

Another rain gear item that I saw at ProPhoto in Portland, called the ProBrella.

These can also be found at Amazon.
